Editorial standards

These are the working rules applied to every article published on this site.

Sourcing

  1. Named sources only. Each substantive claim identifies the researchers and the year. Claims that cannot be traced to a specific published source are removed rather than softened.
  2. Figures are verified or omitted. A statistic appears only where the source reporting it has been checked. Where verification was not possible, the article describes the direction of a finding without quoting a number.
  3. Contested evidence is labelled as contested. Where specialists disagree, or where a result has failed to replicate, the article says so in the same passage as the finding.
  4. Sample composition is stated. Findings drawn from student convenience samples, from single-country samples, or from small interview-based samples are described as such.

How readers are addressed

Articles are written in the third person and describe what researchers observed in study participants. No article asserts, implies, asks about, or assumes anything regarding the circumstances, relationships, history, or characteristics of any individual reader. This rule applies to article text, headlines, page titles, and any advertising material produced by this publisher.

Corrections policy

When an error of fact is identified, the article is corrected at the point of error and a dated correction note is appended to that article. Corrections are not made silently. Substantive corrections are also listed below. Reports of an error can be sent to support@haldenquarterly.site.

Corrections log

No corrections have been issued to date. Any correction made after publication will be recorded here with its date and the article affected.

Independence
